Euromac Powers Fruttera's Premium Fruit Preservation: Advanced Cooling Solutions for Quality-Focused Storage

The challenge

Fruterra faced a significant operational challenge in 2013 when increasing market demand from local farmers necessitated the construction of new facilities for fruit collection and storage. Quality assurance for fruits at all stages of production was a primary goal for Fruterra, with their commitment to quality extending from cultivation methods through harvesting, standardization, and packaging, all the way to distribution and preservation for the end customer. With the company handling more than 1000 tons of diverse fruits each season—including peaches, kiwis, and apricots—their existing infrastructure could no longer adequately support their growing operation.
The new facilities required specialized refrigerated storage spaces capable of maintaining optimal temperatures for different fruit varieties, each with unique preservation requirements. Additionally, these storage areas needed robust protection against the extreme high temperatures’ characteristic of summer months, which could compromise fruit quality and shelf life. As seasonal harvests intensified production demands, the company needed a solution that would not only accommodate current volume but also provide scalability for anticipated future growth. Fruterra’s challenge was to develop this expanded infrastructure while ensuring their stringent quality standards remained uncompromised throughout the entire supply chain.

The Solution

Fruttera partnered with Euromac to develop a comprehensive solution for their fruit storage challenges. Euromac designed and built 4x 800m³ cooling cells specifically engineered for storing various seasonal fruits including peaches, kiwis, and apricots. The cooling cells were served by a sophisticated refrigeration system featured eight Bitzer compressors renowned for their reliability in industrial applications, coupled with efficient Gunther condensers for optimal heat dissipation. Central to the system’s functionality was a comprehensive PLC control panel that enabled precise temperature monitoring and management across all storage areas.
This state-of-the-art facility primarily served local Giannitsa area farmers, providing them with specialized storage for their harvested produce under ideal preservation conditions. The controlled environment maintained consistent temperatures despite external summer heat, significantly extending fruit shelf life and preserving quality throughout the supply chain. The expanded infrastructure not only accommodated Fruttera’s current volume of 1000+ tons annually but also provided the scalability needed for future growth. This strategic investment strengthened Fruttera’s position as a critical link in the regional agricultural supply chain, enabling them to maintain their commitment to quality from farm to consumer.
