The challenge
The municipal slaughterhouse of Oichalia in Trikala, under the management of ATH. FASOULAS-DIM. NTOUFAS & CO, faced a significant operational challenge in meeting Greek legal requirements for the biological treatment of animal waste. Under Greek and EU law, all waste generated from slaughtered animals must undergo proper biological treatment processes to eliminate serious public health risks and prevent environmental pollution. This regulatory mandate posed both compliance and financial pressures for the facility, as traditional waste disposal methods were no longer legally acceptable.
To address this challenge, Euromac was contracted to design and install a comprehensive rendering line specifically engineered to manage animal waste from goats, cattle, and pigs processed at the facility. Beyond ensuring full regulatory compliance and advancing sustainability goals, the new rendering unit delivered substantial economic benefits to the municipal slaughterhouse, generating notable cost efficiencies and operational cost reductions that helped offset the initial investment while maintaining the highest standards of public health and environmental protection. Euromac refurbished older generation systems and put together a rendering line comprising of different brands and solutions.

The Solution
Euromac delivered a comprehensive and fully refurbished rendering line solution to ATH. FASOULAS-DIM. NTOUFAS & CO, specifically engineered to meet their animal waste processing requirements at the Oichalia facility. The complete system centered around an Oestergaard batch cooker with a substantial nominal loading capacity of 5,000kg per batch, providing the processing volume necessary for their municipal slaughterhouse operations. The rendering line incorporated an Oestergaard crusher designed for continuous and efficient size reduction of raw animal by-products, ensuring optimal preparation for the cooking process.
Fat separation was handled by a MIG Fat Press, enabling continuous pressing of fat from cooked and dried animal and poultry by-products, maximizing resource recovery and value extraction. To optimize energy efficiency, the system included a shell heat exchanger that efficiently condenses steam and gases from the machinery back into water, reducing operational costs and environmental impact. The entire installation was completed with custom-built conveyors and silos, all finished in the customer’s preferred color scheme, demonstrating Euromac’s attention to both functional performance and aesthetic integration with the client’s facility requirements.
