Bibikas Mink Farm, Grevena, Greece
The challenge
Feeding over 50,000 mink daily presents a major logistical and operational challenge, requiring a consistent, high-quality, and cost-effective food supply. To meet this demand, the company sources bulk leftovers from slaughterhouses and fish processing facilities across Europe, which are then shipped to Grevena, Greece. However, maintaining food quality, safety, and freshness over long periods proved difficult. To overcome this, the company sought an advanced freezing solution, enabling efficient storage while preserving nutritional value and hygiene standards. This investment not only improved inventory management but also ensured a steady, safe food supply, reinforcing the company’s commitment to efficiency and sustainability in mink farming operations.

The Solution
To address the challenge of efficiently storing and preserving food for over 50,000 mink, the company partnered with Euromac S.A. to install two fully refurbished Jackstone vertical plate freezers. Each freezer features 24 stations, expandable to 48 with partitions, and boasts a capacity of 516 kg/hour, with inner dimensions of 3020x800x790 mm and a total volume of 180 liters. Designed for block freezing with minimal pre-handling, these freezers are ideal for processing fish, shellfish, meat, poultry, vegetables, fruits, liquids, and by-products, including offal for pet food. Utilizing double contact freezing, the system is 30% faster than traditional blast freezing, enabling the fast, economical freezing of large quantities while maintaining high product quality, taste, texture, and nutritional value. This solution ensures a reliable, long-term food supply, optimizing operations and reinforcing the company’s commitment to efficiency and sustainability.
